Description

Brown Turkey Fig is the best choice for Irish conditions. Figs are heat loving trees and will do well in a sunny sheltered spot. It can be be fan-trained against a south- or south-west-facing wall with its roots constricted by a planting pit to restrict growth and encourage fruiting. Alternatively, plant it in soil-based compost in a polytunnel or cool greenhouse. The fruit of Brown Turkey is green flushed purplish red, with sweet, succulent red flesh of excellent flavour; it is ready to pick when soft, and the skin splits easily. It can be kept compact and productive by pinching out all new shoots when they have 5 leaves.
