Description

Brown Turkey Fig is the best choice for Irish conditions. Figs are heat loving trees and will do well in a sunny sheltered spot. It can be be fan-trained against a south- or south-west-facing wall with its roots constricted by a planting pit to restrict growth and encourage fruiting. Alternatively, plant it in soil-based compost in a large pot in a polytunnel or cool greenhouse. If you dont restrict the roots the tree will be much less likely to give fruit. The fruit of Brown Turkey is green flushed purplish red, with sweet, succulent red flesh of excellent flavour; it is ready to pick when soft, and the skin splits easily.
